Debbie's Story
Life
Most of you knew me by the name of Debbie Cameron. That wasn't my "real" name. My last name was really Beech. I just liked the sound.. my real dad wasn't very happy with me. Looking back, it was idiotic, to use another last name.. I have 2 kids, 22 and 25. Kaylee and Rodney. It's crazy that they are now adults. I waited till late to have kids in case you can't tell. I miss Colorado, yes, even Pueblo. Phoenix Az. is like living in hell. We have one season. Hot.. hotter, hotter than hell... hot. When it hits 80 degrees people start wearing sweaters. I work at Centurylink, and handle just one account, Intel. It's fun. I've been with USWest, Qwest, now CenturyLink for 18 years.
School
Most people hated high school. I loved it. I'd go back in a heartbeat. But I would love if the people then were as great and real as they are now. Growing up is such a blessing.
Our 30 year reunion. I can't even say how much I enjoyed being there, connecting with old friends, and just getting to know people all over again. I loved it. I left there with some new adventures to go on, and I am excited that I now have certain people that I will see more often and not lose touch with again. Hoping there will be a 40th.
Thank you to everyone who put our 30th reunion together. Thank you John Hynes for always being there, you are definitely one of my best guy friends.
College
USC... ha ha ha.. it was terrific. I had spring fever so bad that I never went to ...Expand for more
classes. Damn Concert Crew kept me hopping and of course it did open a few doors. I changed majors 3 times, trying to find my path.. and still never did. I had great times with my Mass Communications classes, and hanging out with all the people from Channel 5- our theme parties, especially the Hawaii in December, with our skimpy summer outfits with snow on the ground. It was cold outside!! Driving around in the NBC Peacock Van.. I loved college. I had so much fun. Too bad I never graduated!
Workplace
I have had so many jobs. Started at 16 at Cinema 1&2, on the East side, outside of Belmont. (A lot of you got free popcorn and sodas.. if you think back!) Worked at the Chief Theatre too. I ended up mostly working at King Soopers, on 29th Street by the Mall. Did a stint as the Assistant Manager at Bell Bros Shoe Store at the Mall before they closed down. Before leaving for Phoenix, I worked out in Blende for my brother in law, at Gus' Market. They owned the place, and I ate a LOT of fruits and vegetables!! On to Phoenix, I started at Safeway, moved to advertising, met a ton of great people doing that...if we could only go back and do it all over again..... then tried Life Insurance at Metlife for a bit. Too taxing. Nights, weekends, people's houses.. never knowing if you will walk out alive.. and ended up at Qwest- Now Centurylink. 18 years later, I am still there. Hope to finally retire from there, but in this day and age, who knows.
